In essence the decision of splitting a trip is taken based on the quality of the information registered by the phone for the mobility type but also depending on frequently visited places.
So in summary, the split depends on:
- Accuracy of mobility type recognition - movement patterns determine the mobility type.
- Frequent visited places - based on past recognized trips, the system may see fit that a trip split is necessary.
- Time spent at a certain place - spending about 5 minutes in a certain spot could trigger a trip split, increasing the time spent in a place increases the chance for a trip split.
That being said, if you have split commutes and you see fit to merge them because they are part of one go, you may do so. However, please pay attention to make sure you are merging the right commutes for report submission.
